A Droid Straight Out Of The Movies

Introducing Stars Wars BB-8 Droid

                                   bb 8 droid

BB 8 Droid is an Astro mech droid that appears on Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens. It has a ball shaped body and a domed head that resembles that of the R2 series droids, whose most popular unit isR2-D2. BB 8 Droid’s body rolls independently from the head, which always stays near the vertical axis of the droid.

Like the R2 series, BB 8 Droid also fits in the droid socket of an X-Wing starfighter. Specifically, the T-70 x-Wing fighter model used by the Resistance thirty years after the Battle of Endor. Despite what most people thought before the movie was released, BB 8 Droid is owned by Resistance’s pilot Poe Dameron.

Move over R2-D2 and C3-PO, there’s a new droid in town and it goes by the name of BB-8! This adorably cute Astro mech droid is set to star in the new Star Wars movie ‘The Force Awakens’ and it’s got everyone at RED5 well and truly hy-spherical with excitement!

This rolling ball of personality is the latest creation from Sphero, and just like the V2 and the Ollie, it’s completely controllable from a smartphone or tablet. Not only that but you can also control BB 8 Droid with various voice commands or it can roam autonomously exploring its environment, hopefully avoiding Kylo Ren and the First Order in the process.

No Astro mech droid is complete without the ability to create and view holographic recordings (help me, Obi Wan, you’re my only hope) and you’ll be pleased to know the BB 8 Droid also has this ability programmed into its circuitry (with the help of the clever app).
